Road to Paris 2024 Olympics: Nile Breweries Limited offers Ug.Shs 200M to team Uganda

Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has boosted the preparations for team Uganda head of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics Games in France with a financial bounty of Ug.Shs 200,000,000.

This was officially confirmed on Tuesday, 11th June 2024 during a press briefing held at the NBL plant in Luzira, a suburb of Kampala city.

During the same briefing, the two parties; Nile Breweries Limited and Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) signed binding documentations before the media.

Dr Donald Rukare, president of Uganda Olympic Committee led the visiting delegation that also had Moses Mwase (Chef De Mission of team Uganda) and Joseph Collins Ssemanda (head of marketing commission at UOC).

Nile Breweries Limited country manager Adu Rando and Brenda Nzirambeera (country procurement manager) represented Nile Breweries Limited.

“We are excited to associate with the Uganda Olympic Committee as team Uganda prepares for the Olympic Games in Paris, France. Even globally, we are very strong supporters of athletics. We now come to team Uganda heading for the Olympics. We are also into Rugby, football and others. Sports is very special and so is Nile Special. We are happy for this partnership coming at a time we are into the gold medal campaign” Rando reported before he handed over the ceremonial dummy cheque to the UOC officials.

“This is a win-win proposition” Dr Rukare noted. “As team Uganda, this is a huge boost that will lift our preparations as the days come nearby to the Olympics” he added.

Nile Breweries Limited sponsorship has a cash coffer of Ug.Shs 120,000,000 (one hundred and two millions) with Ug.shs 80,000,000 (eighty millions) coming in kind (product).

Other partners and sponsors:

Government of Uganda is the main funder for team Uganda. Others are paints manufacturers Kansai Plascon and Sanlam Insurance.

Kansai Plascon offered Ug.Shs 125,000,000 (one hundred and twenty-five millions); of which Ug.Shs 50,000,000 (fifty millions) is cash and the rest, Ug.Shs 75,000,000 (seventy-five millions) is in kind (product).

Sanlam Insurance is the official insurance partner for team Uganda, covering the medical and travel expenses.

Team Uganda is expected to have 37 athletes and 28 officials travel for France.

The athletes will come from the Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Cycling, Rowing and Rugby (if they make the qualification mark in final qualifiers).

Previous performances:

During the previous games in Japan, Uganda won two gold medals, 1 silver and a bronze, all from athletics.

The two gold medals came from Joshua Cheptegei (5000m) and Peruth Chemutai (3000m steeplechase).

There was one silver by Cheptegei (10,000m) and a bronze by Jacob Kiplimo (10,000m).

The Olympics will commence on 26th July 2024 and run until 11th August 2024 in France’s capital city, Paris.

Uganda is among the 206 confirmed countries and territories that will be participating.

These games attract over 15,000 athletes and will be viewed by over 4 billion people from all over the world via various media platform; television and social media.
