In a bid to spread the game of Powerlifting to all corners of the country, Uganda Powerlifting Association has embarked on deliberate plans to grow the sport.
Whilst powerlifting is power in Central Uganda, it remains stunted in the other parts of Uganda.
Uganda Powerlifting national team head coach Kenneth Ssekilanda recently made a courtesy visit to Mbarara city in Western Uganda.
He convened a successful meeting with the powerlifters that side as part of the early plans to organize the first ever Western Uganda regional powerlifting championship.
“The meeting was successful. There is a lot of positive energy in Western Uganda. Plans are underway to organize a Western Uganda regional championship come July 2024” Ssekilanda remarked.
To that effect, a local organizing committee was instituted to help in the smooth flow of the organization.
Edward Mwesigwa was appointed chairperson to steer the local organizing committee.
Asphat Mukamurisa is secretary general, Jamil Kamugisha (Treasurer), Robert Rujojo (Mobilizer), Hassan Muhammadi (Motivation) and Shakabitoma in charge of publicity.
The date for the championship is tentatively set for 13th July 2024 in Mbarara city.
