NIRA Blocks Age Alteration Attempt by Youth MP Hopeful Nakku Fiona

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has denied a request by National Female Youth MP aspirant Nakku Fiona to modify her date of birth on her national identity card — a move widely interpreted as an effort to meet the constitutional age limit for youth parliamentary candidates.

Under electoral laws, those seeking the National Female Youth MP position must be 30 years or younger at the time of nomination. However, official records confirm that Nakku Fiona is above the required age limit.

Sources within NIRA disclosed that Nakku made the request shortly after realizing her actual age could disqualify her from the race.

A comprehensive investigation into her birth records and identification documents revealed that her existing details were accurate and consistent with official records. NIRA consequently rejected her request.

“NIRA does not alter identity information without solid legal grounds,” said a senior official.

“The findings made it clear the attempt was aimed at gaining eligibility through dishonest means.”

The incident has stirred public debate, with many calling for tighter scrutiny and vetting of electoral candidates. Legal analysts say that had the alteration been approved, it could have amounted to a serious case of fraud.

With the nomination deadline closing in, Nakku Fiona now faces likely disqualification unless she launches a successful legal challenge. The Electoral Commission is expected to publish the final list of qualified candidates later this week.

This case has reignited concerns over candidate eligibility and the need to uphold integrity, especially for positions meant to represent the youth.
