NBL: Kampala Rockets secure maiden season victory over UCU Canons

Kampala Rockets registered a hard-fought 67-61 victory over UCU Canons in the National Basketball League at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday.
After suffering a narrow 51-48 defeat to Victoria Crocs in their previous game, the Rockets bounced back to edge a revamped UCU Canons side.
The game started slowly, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm.
UCU Canons held a slim one-point lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a two-point advantage (25-23) going into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, Kampala Rockets surged ahead with a 6-0 run, taking a four-point lead after Joseph Wacha’s driving layup.
However, UCU responded, reclaiming a two-point lead at the end of the third quarter, thanks to Zachariah Ekirapa’s buzzer-beating three-pointer.
In the final period, Brian Opio ignited the Rockets with two crucial long-range shots, helping them establish a strong fight against Canons.
Christian Ndibu delivered an outstanding performance, recording a double-double with 12 points and 22 rebounds.
Roxine Ahumuza and Kevin Kasobya also played key roles, contributing 12 and 11 points, respectively.
On the other hand, only Ibanda Lwabaga (23 points) and Jimmy Otim (11 points) scored in double digits for UCU Canons.
