Nambooze praises Mirundi’s role in fighting degree requirement for journalism

Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke, Woman MP Mukono district, joined the list of the many public figures celebrating the life of the former presidential press secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi.

In her submission, she applauded the late for leading the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) well during his tenure as the president of the forum.

She pointed out one impactful move that the late Joseph Tamale Mirundi played when he rejected and fought against a rule that had been formulated barring anyone who doesn’t hold a degree from practicing journalism.

Hon. Nabooze added that the law would permit those with Diploma to act as associate members but he led them well until they successfully won the challenge.

The Tamale Mirundi I know is different from the one you saw. Especially the one who used to be the president of UJA.

He was instrumental and vocal in the fight against a rule that had been formed that required a person practicing journalism to have a degree. He fought it until he was successful.

However, after that battle of making sure that practicing journalism doesn’t need someone to have a degree as a lawyer, they each took different paths.

Tamale Mirundi joined President Museveni as his press secretary whereas Nambooze became the DP spokesperson.

She adds that Tamale Mirundi died a dissatisfied individual because, in most of his interviews, he would speak about how he hated the government and its mafias accusing them of poisoning him.
