2024 St John’s Invitational Lacrosse Open:
Champions:
- Boys: Mt St Mary’s High School, Zirobwe
- Girls: Nabisunsa Girls School
1st Runners up:
- Boys: Bombo Army Secondary School
- Girls: St Mary’s High School, Zirobwe
2nd Runners up:
- Boys: St John’s Secondary School, Nandere
- Girls: Bombo Army Secondary Sschool
The inaugural edition of the St John’s invitational Lacrosse tournament was successfully held at the St John’s secondary school, Nandere in Luweero district.
Mt St Mary’s High School, Zirobwe and Nabisunsa Girls School emerged as the overall boys and girls’ champions respectively.
Bombo Army SS came second for the boys as St Mary’s High School, Zirobwe were second best for the girls.
Hosts St John’s Secondary School Nandere and Bombo Army Secondary School finished third for both boys and girls respectively.
Outstanding players:
Nuriat Kusemererwa of Nabisunsa Girls was named as the best goalkeeper.
Bombo Army’s Job Mwesigwa won the best player gong.
The tournament was started to nurture talents within the different schools and introducing such new kinds of games to the learners to get exposed on a diverse of sporting activities.
Mubarak Mansour, the tournament director hailed the participating schools who used this championship as a precursor for the national school games in September 2024.
“I thank all the participating schools which took place in this tournament which was intended to give schools enough playing time ahead of the national championship this September.” Mubarak stated.
This championship was supported by St Johns SS Nandere, Uganda Lacrosse Association, Wopi Uganda Limited and Silverbacks Youth sports program – Uganda.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports with the game now played in a number of schools.
