It’s Rugby galore at Kyadondo this weekend

Rugby fans have the once in a blue moon opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sport for three
consecutive days, at four venues and on three different levels.

From schools’ rugby finals on Sunday for both girls and boys, to the championship promotional semifinal play-offs and the big ones, the Premiership quarterfinal playoffs.

Of all the venues, Kyadondo Rugby Club is going to enjoy the largest chunk of the games, hosting a total of five games across two days.

The rugby weekend starts today, with the newest derby on the rugby scene. The Victoria Sharks are hosting the Platinum Credit Heathens in the first leg of the 2025 Premiership Playoff Quarterfinals, a game many consider a grudge match after the Sharks narrowly lost to the yellow machine under dramatic circumstances.

Charles Uhuru was locked out of that game over a transfer dispute, while Paul Epillo, Steven Kalema, Emma Ochan and Morgan Odoch, amongst others, were all not eligible to play against their parent club.

They return today at 4:30 PM, in the first of 2 quarterfinal playoffs to take place at Kyadondo Rugby Club.

On Saturday, in addition to the quarterfinal between the Toyota Buffaloes and the KOBs at
4PM, there shall be plenty of championship action, starting as early as 10AM.

Summary of Kyadondo Fixtures

Sharks Vs Heathens – Friday, 4:30PM.

Saturday, 5th April, 2025

Pacers Vs Swans – 10AM
Impis Vs Kyambogo – 12PM
Rams Vs Jaguars – 2PM
Buffaloes Vs KOBs – 4PM.

What is happening elsewhere?

Across the road at Legends Rugby Grounds, the Rhinos are hosting a wounded Hippo, while in Walukuba, the Barbarians are playing home to the high-flying Black Pirates in a lopsided fixture that is expected to go one way.

The winners of these fixtures set themselves up for a more comfortable return leg where the stakes are higher.

On Sunday, the Schools’ League makes history as for the first time, the girls’ final shall be played alongside the boys’ final on the same day, at the same venue.

The games shall be played at the Makerere Rugby Grounds, also known as the Graveyard, home to the Makerere College School side in the Schools’ League.

Summary of schools’ fixtures, Sunday 7th April, 2025

  • Namilyango Vs SMACK (Under 15) – 10AM
  • Airforce Army Vs Mpunge Seed – 12PM
  • Namilyango Vs SMACK (Under 17) – 2PM
  • Namilyango Vs Budo (Under 20) – 4PM.
