Irene Namubiru opens up about setting healthy boundaries for personal growth

Singer and humanitarian Irene Namubiru has opened up about a deeply personal journey of healing and resilience, revealing how she overcomes disappointment and emotional setbacks.

In a heartfelt reflection tied to the themes of her newly released book, “My Mother Knows!”, Irene shares her approach to emotional well-being and why letting go of negative influences is crucial for personal growth.

Speaking candidly, Irene explains that one of the key steps in her recovery process has been learning to cut off people who bring negative energy into her life.

While it may sound harsh to some, the singer insists that it’s a healthy boundary that protects one’s peace and mental health.

In my personal journey to healing, I talked to myself and I found out that it was befitting to cut off people who give me negative energy. It is not bad at all because you will have saved yourself lots of things. And that’s when I started healing, regardless of who they are.

Far from being impulsive or vindictive, Irene clarified that she doesn’t simply walk away without closure.

She ensures that every fallout is preceded by an honest conversation — a moment to express her feelings and share her perspective, even if the relationship is coming to an end.

I can chill something, but I can’t go without addressing the problem with anyone with whom I might be having misunderstandings before cutting off communication, because I always want that person to be fully aware of what went wrong.

In a powerful takeaway, Irene emphasizes that forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation — a boundary that many struggle to uphold in the face of emotional attachments and societal expectations.

In my healing, you can’t tell me to give and forget. I can forgive and forget, but that doesn’t mean that we shall rekindle our relationship.

Her story is a reminder that healing is a choice, and sometimes, it starts with knowing when to let go.
