"If Not For Nyanzi, You Would Be In ghettos of Kamwokya Struggling with life, So Make Him Get The NUP Flag" Bobi Wine's Relatives Plead

Family and clan elders of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, have asked him to give his elder brother, Fred Nyanzi, the party ticket for Kawempe South. According to reports, the elders traveled to Magere where they held a private meeting with Kyagulanyi, pleading with him to consider Nyanzi for the parliamentary seat.
During the heated discussions, the elders reminded Bobi Wine that Nyanzi made great sacrifices for him when he was young. They argued that Nyanzi used the little money he had to pay school fees for him and helped shape him into the responsible man he is today. Without Nyanzi’s support, they said, Bobi would still be struggling in the ghettos of Kamwokya instead of leading a national political movement.
The family members insisted that this sacrifice should not be forgotten. To them, the best way to repay Nyanzi is by ensuring that he gets the NUP flag for Kawempe South. They further stressed that Nyanzi’s contribution to Bobi Wine’s life and to the struggle for change in Uganda should not be overlooked.
The elders also reminded Kyagulanyi of how Nyanzi has shown discipline and loyalty to the movement even when things did not go his way. For instance, when he was removed from his Kunga mobilization role and demoted to the foreign affairs desk, Nyanzi quietly accepted the decision after receiving advice from family elders. This, they said, was proof of his patience and respect for the bigger picture.
However, Nyanzi’s chances are being challenged within the party. Sources reveal that NUP’s Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, has been pushing the candidature of Hon. Shamim Malende in Kawempe South. Rubongoya has been introducing her to voters in the area, presenting her as the right choice for the constituency.
But Malende is reportedly facing resistance from some residents. Voters in Kawempe South have complained about politicians they see as outsiders, pointing out that they are tired of leaders like Bashir Kazibwe who they feel did not serve them well. Because of this, another strong name in the race, Dr. Roy Ssemboga, is gaining ground since he is a local resident with community ties.
Despite these dynamics, clan elders believe that Nyanzi still deserves a chance. They argue that family loyalty, sacrifice, and commitment to the struggle should be considered when making such political decisions. They fear that ignoring Nyanzi could cause internal friction not only within the family but also within the wider support base that respects him.
At the moment, Nyanzi is said to have about 10% ground support, which is still low compared to other contenders. This has put NUP officials in a difficult position as they weigh loyalty to family against the party’s political strength in Kawempe South. The final decision on who will carry the party flag is expected to be made soon.
The matter has now become both a family and political issue. On one hand, it is about repaying Nyanzi for the sacrifices he made to build his brother’s future. On the other hand, it is about ensuring that the strongest candidate represents NUP in a very competitive constituency.
Whatever decision is reached, it will not only affect Nyanzi and Bobi Wine but also the image of NUP as a party that preaches fairness, loyalty, and democracy. For now, all eyes remain on Kyagulanyi to see whether he will side with his clan elders and family, or whether he will leave the decision entirely to the party structures.
