In Kenya, numerous agencies have flooded the market claiming to help people acquire affordable land for building their dream homes. For Alex, a 43-year-old, he fell victim to scammers who swindled him Ksh 450,000. He had long aspired to own a retirement home, but his dreams were shattered after the con artists deceived him. Alex says he believed the agency was legitimate and didn’t hesitate to deposit the money into their bank account, eager to secure the prime plot the company had advertised.

Shortly after making the payment, all contact with the agency was lost. Despite repeated attempts to reach them, he was unable to get through. Eventually, he realized the agency was a scam—merely a platform designed to trick people into handing over money, with many others having reported similar losses.
