Overall Gross winners:

  • Men: Bruce Gumoshabe – 78
  • Women: Robinah Angom – 87 (After sudden death on holes 12, 17 & 18)

The 31st edition of the Kabaka Coronation Anniversary Golf championship officially teed off at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante, Kampala on Monday, 22nd July 2024.

This championship has started with the caddies tournament where a total of 80 participants (68 men and 12 ladies) took part.

By close of business, senior caddy Bruce Gumoshabe toppled the rest of the crop with 6-over-78 gross score to emerge as the best overall male player.

Gumoshabe, playing off handicap 3 scored a total of 4 birdies, 8 pars, 5 bogies and 1 double bogie.

“I am happy to win the Coronation tournament for the caddies. I dedicate this victory to the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II who returned yesterday from Namibia. The rains were also a blessing to me” Gumoshabe, 29 years of age stated.

Henry Ssali took the runners up prize with 79 gross (countback).

In the ladies’ cluster, Robinah Angom, handicap 13 emerged top with 87 gross.

Angom needed a sudden death victory on holes 12, 17 and 18 over Liz Kansime.

The 27-year-old Angom recorded 9 par scores, 2 bogies and 6 double boggies on her score card.

Net category:

Hannington Kawesa won the men net score category with 67. The ladies docket was won by Rebecca Muwanguzi (74), a stroke better than Liz Kansime (countback).

The closing ceremony was graced by the Buganda Kingdom minister of sports, arts and youth Owek. Ssalongo Robert Serwanga.

The minister lauded the caddies for the special roles they serve to the golfing fraternity as he urged them to remain focused to become better golfers and professionals in future.

“I want to thank you for the special tasks you execute to the golfers. May you remain focused and keeping playing to better your skills as you become good gross players and professional golfers in future” Owek. Sserwanga noted.

The caddies championship will be followed by the gross players on Thursday, 25th July 2024 for 18 holes and the final 18 holes will be completed on the subsequent day.

The main Coronation open shall be held on Saturday, 27th July 2024 at the course named after the famous Kitante stream.

Sponsors as Crown Beverages Limited, Case Medicare, Equity Bank and others have come up to support this tournament.
