Graduates urged to utilize obtained skills to innovate, uplift communities at KU’s 23rd graduation ceremony.

On 23rd April 2026 Kampala University (Original) held their 23rd graduation at their main campus in Ggaba where over 3,500 students completed their studies in various discipline with degrees, masters and certification levels  

The ceremony that attracted top dignitaries including Members of Parliament such as Eunice Namatende, Jovia Katusiime, Jamar Mukuve, and John Waiswa among others was presides over by the University Chancellor Prof. Mondo Kagonyera.

The Guest of Honour Prof. Maggie Kigozi called upon graduates to leverage in the skills obtained while at the university to innovate, create jobs to address the employments divide while uplifting communities in Uganda.

Prof. Kigozi encouraged graduates to embrace of self-reliance, innovation, and adaptability in a competitive job market. 

“Use the knowledge and skills you have acquired to create jobs, earn a living, and provide opportunities for others who are unemployed,” she said.

She added that “Do not discriminate when it comes to jobs. Be open to opportunities because success comes from willingness to explore different paths”.

The University Chancellor Mondo Kagonyera underscored the importance of innovation, Artificial Intelligence, and sustainable development in shaping the future.

“Graduates should embrace Artificial Intelligence, innovation, and sustainable development to move their lives forward,” he said.

He also congratulated science students and urged all graduates to uphold integrity and dedication in their careers.

“Be bold and creative in everything you do. Use your degrees to improve your communities in this highly competitive world,” he said

Al-Haj Badru Ddungu Kateregga

The Vice Chancellor, Badru Ddungu Kateregga, encouraged graduates to remain determined and apply their knowledge to drive positive change. 

Mr. Moses Watasa from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance delivered a message on behalf of Permanent Secretary Amina Zawedde.

“The government is expanding internet access across the country and is in the final stages of rolling out Artificial Intelligence programmes in various institutions,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Moses Kalangwa expressed pride in their achievements and optimism about the future.
