Court of Appeal hears Wamala Troy’s appeal in Mowzey Radio murder case

The Court of Appeal has commenced the hearing of Wamala Troy’s case, the man convicted for the murder of Mowzey Radio.

His death followed a violent altercation at De Bar in Entebbe on January 22, 2018. Troy Wamala was arrested as the prime suspect and, in 2019, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for his involvement in the artist’s death.

However, Troy later appealed the ruling, seeking a review of his sentence. His appeal process has faced multiple delays, with his legal team frequently citing unavailability or unreadiness as reasons for postponements.

Speaking to Sanyuka TV, Mowzey Radio’s brother, who was present in court, expressed frustration over the delays, stating that Troy has continuously used excuses to stall the hearings.

The court has now decided that a ruling will be given on notice, meaning the decision will be delivered at a later date.

Radio’s family remains unsatisfied with the initial 13-year sentence, arguing that it does not reflect the gravity of the loss.

Radio was the breadwinner and caretaker for our mother, had a family and children, and many responsibilities. We felt the sentence was too lenient, especially since the time he spent on remand was deducted from it. But we had no choice.
