Namibia win one-run thriller to go ahead in Capricorn Series

Capricorn Series: Namibia W v Uganda W
- Namibia-W 126/6
- Uganda-W 125 all out
- Namibia won by 1 run
Victoria Pearls pushed the hosts, Namibia, to the edge but failed to get over the line in a high-scoring thriller, going down by just one run.
Namibia won the toss and elected to bat first and a great bowling display up front by Uganda left them at 49/4 in 12 overs.
However, the hosts found a second gear with Mwatile Mekelaye (60 not out) leading the charge to push the score to 126/6 in their 20 overs. Uganda was guilty of some sloppy fielding at the back end that allowed the hosts to pull away.
In the run chase, Esther Iloku (41) led the run chase with some brave batting at the top of the order. She had a strong partnership with Captain Janet Mbabazi (44) that kept the match alive. However, the run chase was derailed by some poor shot selection and a regular loss of wickets pushed the game to the end.
Sarah Akiteng was unable to find the winning runs off the final two balls and once her wicket fell it was all over for Uganda.
Namibia leapt ahead in the series with their third consecutive win of the series. The teams will play their final game of the series tomorrow before the girls return home.
