Comedian Dr. T-Amale blames decline in career on withdrawal of Dr. Besigye from politics

Comedian Dr. T-Amale opened up about the challenges he faces in his career, attributing the decline of his comedy to the withdrawal of Dr. Kizza Besigye from active politics.

Dr. T-Amale, who gained popularity through his politically charged humor, believes that his relevance in the comedy scene has gone down as a result of the shift in Uganda’s political landscape.

At 31, Dr. T-Amale insists that he still has what it takes to entertain audiences, but the material that once fueled his career has become scarce.

He explains that during Dr. Besigye’s active years in opposition, there was an abundance of political headlines and news stories that provided rich material for his jokes.

However, with Dr. Besigye stepping back from the political front, the content that once inspired Dr. T-Amale’s jokes has dried up.

When Besigye was in the thick of politics, there was always something to talk about. But when he withdrew, my career also stagnated.

While acknowledging that Bobi Wine has taken the mantle as the leader of the largest opposition party, Dr. T-Amale argues that the dynamics have changed.

He likens Bobi Wine to a “lone striker,” leading the opposition with less media coverage, which has resulted in fewer opportunities for comedians like him to find humorous angles in political news.

Bobi Wine’s leadership is different. He hasn’t provided the same level of political news that comedians like me used to thrive on.
