Despite past conflicts between two neighbours South Sudan and Sudan that resulted into cessation of the former from the latter, football has united the two brothers.

First, the two nations played in an international friendly at Juba stadium and now with the civil war in Sudan suspending all activities including football, Al Merrikh will host their Caf Champions League match at the venue.

The reverse fixture against Libya’s Al Nassr ended in a goalless draw at the Martyrs of Benina in Benghazi.

The gesture is historic and beautiful and will go a long way in mending previously broken relationships between the two brotherly countries.

With the Juba stadium also approved to host international matches, the Falcons of Jeddah, the national team of Sudan will most likely use same facility.

Since the civil war broke out in Sudan, Al Merrikh and Al Hilal have hosted their matches in Tanzania.
