For the next couple of weeks, the 1901 founded Entebbe club will be the main center of attraction for the golfing fraternity.

This is because the prestigious Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open series will be happening at the lake-side par-71 golfing facility.

The ladies and seniors officially tee off their opening round on Thursday, 22nd August 2024 as they negotiate from the Tee to the well-maintained fairways decimated by the different tree species with the dominate pines.

The uniqueness of the Entebbe course given the undulating terrain, several dog-legged fairways, bunkers and other harzards with the cool breeze off the nearby Lake Victoria waterbody will present the golfers a worthwhile experience.

There is stiff competition coming to this year’s ladies open with the majority of Ugandan ladies in tip top form.

It will however not be a walk in the walk for the Ugandans as the visiting legion of Tanzanian golfers have always given them a good run of their money.

There is a big possibility that the reigning champion Peace Kabasweka could not defend her title since she was missing on the main draw by press-time.

With Kabasweka out of contention and Eva Magala now a professional, the odds will turn to former winners Martha Babirye and Neema Olomi.

Other favourites to talk about include the Tanzanian trio of Vicky Elias, Iddi Madina and Hawa Wanyeche.

The Ugandans in the queue entail Judith Komugisha, Meron Kyomugisha, Bridget Basiima and the left handed Gloria Mbaguta.

Of course, the open comes with surprises and the artisans as Resty Nalutaaya, Vivian Achen, Robinah Angom, Winnie Musuya could cause a big shock.

Musuya is fresh from winning this year’s Hisense Uganda Juniors Golf open at Entebbe.

“It is too early to predict but personally I am ready for action” Babirye remarked.

Day one draw:

In action on the same day will be the seniors (55 years and above).

Former minister James Byabagambi, Isaac Mariera, Etienne Marin, Suresh Patel, James O’Sullivan, two-time winner John Muchiri, Sean Kinsella (England), Zeph Dube, Tony Kisadha, John Kato, Kaka Matama and others are all ready to swing off.

Johnnie Walker is the headline sponsor. Other partners include MTN Uganda, Crown Beverages (Pepsi and Aquafina), absa bank, Medisell, Case medicare, Nbs sport, Pinnacle security, Entebbe club, white cap, R&A and National council of sports.
