AFRIYEA Golf Academy partners with Switzerland’s PGA performance coach Jenkins, launches first school golf mental program in Uganda

A bold new venture takes its opening shot in Fort Portal, where the AFRIYEA Golf Academy joins forces with Phil Jenkins of Phil Jenkins Performance with the support of FlowCode as means of providing the platform and coaching to launch Mind on the Fairway.
This isn’t just a typical junior golf program it’s a first-of-its-kind effort to weave emotional and mental toughness into the fabric of the game, targeting 200 young players across five schools in this hill-framed Ugandan city.
Golf has always been a proving ground for more than just skill.
A sliced tee shot can fray your nerves; a holed putt can light a fire inside you.

For the kids of Fort Portal, where the western Ugandan landscape meets a hunger for something bigger, those highs and lows are about to turn into something deeper.
“Golf asks you to hold steady whether you are fist-pumping a birdie or swallowing a bogey,” says Isaiah Mwesige, the driving force behind AFRIYEA Golf Academy. “We want these juniors to carry that strength beyond the course, into whatever life throws at them.”
Training Minds, Not Just Swings
Over 12 weeks, Mind on the Fairway will go beyond club grips and green reads it’s about shaping character.
With a mix of on-course drills and sit-down sessions, these kids will learn to name their feelings, lock in their attention, and shake off a bad hole.
Think of a teenager staring down a do-or-die putt, heart thumping, hands slick with sweat.
This program teaches them to take a breath, find their focus, and give it a roll or walk off ready for the next challenge.

That’s the kind of know-how that sticks, helping them face down pressure, stand a little taller, and lean on their teammates.
Phil Jenkins, the Swiss-based mastermind of Phil Jenkins Performance, brings his knack for building winners to this Ugandan fairway.
Known for guiding top athletes and preaching sport as a forge for growth, he’s all in on golf’s potential.
“Golf’s a mirror of life’s twists and turns,” Jenkins says.
“Golf teaches respect, Fair play and how to control the emotions in the face of adversity and we all know the world faced with health concerns there is no better time to teach kids about the mental toughness than now.”

Years ago, Jenkins walked the fairways of Toro Club in Fort Portal, soaking in the raw energy of Uganda’s golf scene.
That round stuck with him a glimpse of a game on the cusp of something big, waiting for the right push.
Now, he’s back to help give it, seeing in these kids the future of golf not just for Uganda, but beyond.
Flowcode Golf chips in with sharp tech and tools, making this a trio with real punch.

Fort Portal’s Moment
Set in Uganda’s western reaches, Fort Portal buzzes with young dreamers and wide-open possibilities.
AFRIYEA Golf Academy has already spent years prying the game loose from its high-society grip, handing clubs to kids who’d never pictured themselves on a tee box.
But a pure swing doesn’t seal the deal guts do.
Kicking off with 200 students in 2025, Mind on the Fairway sets out to show what’s possible, with an eye on rolling it out across the country.

Beyond the Pin
What makes this special is how it spills over.
A junior who keeps their cool when the leaderboard tightens might tap that same steadiness for a tough test at school or a rough patch at home.
A kid who bonds with their crew on the driving range could bring that trust back to their streets. Golf turns into something bigger a classroom for living.
“We’re not just shaping golfers,” Mwesige says, his voice firm. “We’re raising kids who can stand up to anything.” Jenkins backs him up: “These are tomorrow’s trailblazers. Give them the right gear, and they’ll blow you away.”
