Bevis Mugabi will not feature for the Uganda Cranes in the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria in June.

The defender, alongside striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru have been confirmed out of the initial squad summoned by Paul Put ahead of the June 7 and 10th clashes at Namboole.

Mugabi, a regular with the national team since getting summoned by Sebastien Desabre while in charge is currently out of contract at Motherwell in Scotland and reliably asked to be left out to concentrate on sealing a new deal.

The towering centre back who can also ably play as a right back signed a two-year contract with Motherwell in 2022.

It remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal with the club but at the moment, he is a free agent with many suitors in both Scotland and outside of it.

He has made over 20 official appearances for the Uganda Cranes and played at Afcon 2019 finals in Egypt.

Mugabi has played 125 appearances for Motherwell and scored 7 goals for the club in all competitions since joining the club in 2019.

He has been replaced by BUL defender Ronald Otti while Nelson Ssenkatuka of Bright Stars replaces Mubiru.
