The Ministry of Water and Environment recognizes drowning as both a water-safety and climate-resilience issue, given the increasing frequency of floods, storm surges over lakes, and unsafe water use practices.

The Gala served as an awareness and advocacy platform where the Ministry’s messages on safe water use, flood preparedness, and responsible interaction with water bodies were communicated to thousands of youth, schools, and the public.

The Swimming Gala complemented and amplified these efforts by bringing together swimming clubs, schools, lifesaving associations, and the private sector to champion the National agenda of “Zero Drowning in Uganda.”

The event was coordinated by the Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with: Meteorological Services Department, Red Cross, Marine Police, Uganda Swimming Federation, Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda Aquatics, Uganda Swimming Federation, Global Health Advocacy Incubator, Reach A Hand Uganda, Design Without Borders and Life Saving Association of Uganda.
