Arafat Nkoola scored the only goal as St Mary’s Kitende edged Light High Second 1-0 in the USSSA Zonal Games at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

It was a hard-fought win the reigning USSSA National champions as they needed a late goal to clinch the Zonal Championship.

Light High will feel undone since they created several chances but failed to convert any thus dragging the game into late without a goal.

Steven Yiga found the first chance of the game for the hosts but Nathan Ngobi made a time block.

On the other hand, Light High’s Benard Bagambe gave Samuel Mubiru trouble as he tried to match his quick feet.

With 10 minutes left to end the first stanza, Regan Isabirye noded Abubakari Walusimbi’s corner inches wide of the frame.

With all the mounting pressure from the loud home crowd, Ligh High Secondary held on as both sides went into the locker room with neither side finding the back of the net.

Five minutes into the second stanza, Ali Isabirye had a great switch play with Derrick Malinga but Kitende’s goalkeeper Denis Mugerwa made a timely save.

Kitende’s head coach introduced Olimi Nyarwa and Nkoola to replace Santos Agok and Claude Makenge.

In added time, Nkoola tapped the ball into an empty net as he converted Olimi’s delivery as the home crowd erupted in joy and jubilation.
