Uganda side City Oilers have hired Moroccan gaffer Nesba Karim ahead of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The Oilers will compete in the Nile Conference of BAL that will be tipping off on Friday, April 19 in Cairo, Egypt.

Oilers are pitted against Egypt’s Al Ahly, Libya’s Al Ahly, and Central African Republic’s Bangui Sporting Club.

For the Ugandan team to advance to the Playoffs, which will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, later on, they must finish in the top two spots in the group.

Karim and Andrew Tendo will have to collaborate to put together a powerful side that hits the mark.

The Oilers will be looking at building from the positive run in the National Basketball League where they have lost only one game in the 11 games (10-1) played in the first round of the campaign.

What does Karim add to the Oilers?

Karim is a great coach who has previously spent most of his time nurturing young basketball talents with the NBA Academy Africa.

To be more specific, he is a player development coach with the NBA Academy but also acts as a scout to help identify talent in Africa.

His experience and exposure at the top level will be very positive as City Oilers seek a place in the BAL playoffs.

The team will be boosted by a few foreign-based players to try and add more oil to the Ugandan machine to meet the continental level.
