Uganda Human Rights Commission, (UHRC), Hon Wanam Wangadya has congratulated H E President Y. K. Museveni, uoin winning elections for the the President of the Republic of Uganda.

Below is the message signed by the Chairman signed by the Chairperson :

Your Excellency,

President Yoweri Museveni,

On behalf of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, and on my own behalf, I extend warm congratulations to you upon your swearing-in on 12th May 2026, marking the commencement of your fresh term as President of the Republic of Uganda.

This moment is both significant and symbolic. It reflects the will of the people, and it renews a solemn constitutional covenant, between leadership and citizens, anchored in the protection and promotion of human rights.

Your Excellency, the enduring strength of leadership lies in legacy. And in our constitutional order, that legacy is most meaningful when it advances human rights, justice, and the rule of law as your leadership has always demonstrated.

Uganda has made important strides in building a firm legal and institutional framework for human rights. The Constitution remains strong. Institutions Of accountability are established. Public awareness Of rights continues to grow. These gains must be protected and deepened.

However, the true measure of progress is found in the daily experiences Of citizens, the extent to which rights are felt, protected, and respected in ordinary life,

As Uganda Human Rights Commission, we see this new term as an opporwnity to consolidate progress in key areas.

Your Excellency, wealth creation remains central. Economic empowerment is not separate from human rights; it is part of them.

The ability to work, to earn, and to access productive opportunities gives real meaning to freedom and dignity. When citizens are economically empowered, they participate more fully in society and contribute more meaningfully to national development.

We therefore encourage that wealth creation efforts continue to be inclusive, transparent, and accessible, particularly for the youth, women, and marginalized communities. In this way, economic policy becomes a practical pathway to equality, stability, and national cohesion.

Your Excellency, the strength of a nation is reflected in how it treats those at the lowest of the ladder. This new term presents an opportunity to reinforce a governance approach that is citizen-centered, and anchored in accountability.

The Uganda Human Rights Commission reaffirms its commitment to our constitutional mandate. We stand ready to engage constructively and to support efforts that strengthen the human rights landscape in Uganda.

We do so with the firm conviction that human rights are not an obstacle to governance, but rather its foundation.

As you take the oath of office once again, may this new term be defined not only by continuity of leadership, but by a continued commitment to the rights, dignity, and economic empowerment of all Ugandans.
