"That Mathias Walukaaga Bobi Wine Gave The NUP Card To Is Nonthing On Me, I Will Defeat Him Badly" Proud Ssegona Brags

Busiro East MP, Medard Sseggona, has come out strongly after losing the National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag to Mathias Walukaaga. The outspoken lawyer and seasoned legislator insists that Bobi Wine and his party made a mistake by fronting Walukaaga, whom he describes as “too weak” to challenge him.
In a bold interview, Sseggona confirmed that he will be seeking re-election as an independent candidate in the 2026 parliamentary race. According to him, his political strength and experience far outweigh Walukaaga’s, and the voters of Busiro East will prove it at the ballot box.
> “I will be running independently because I didn’t concede defeat. Mathias Walukaaga is too weak a person to beat me in an election. And what is he going to legislate in Parliament, moreover on my behalf and [that of] other hundreds of people? This is really a joke,” Sseggona said.
The MP, who has represented Busiro East for several terms, questioned Walukaaga’s capacity to handle legislative responsibilities. He argued that Walukaaga should have remained in his position as a Mayor instead of attempting to enter Parliament. According to Sseggona, leadership in Parliament requires not just popularity but also knowledge, experience, and political maturity.
Sseggona further revealed that his fallout with NUP leaders was not because he lost to Walukaaga during vetting, but because he was deliberately pushed out of the party’s internal process. He insists that the decision was political and not based on merit or capability.
Despite the fallout, Sseggona clarified that he will continue to support Bobi Wine’s presidential bid. However, he made it clear that he will not back other NUP candidates at different levels, signaling deep cracks between him and the party leadership.
The legislator also expressed confidence that his track record in Parliament speaks for itself. He highlighted his legislative experience, legal knowledge, and long service to the people of Busiro East as reasons why voters will choose him over Walukaaga.
The development sets the stage for a heated contest in Busiro East, as Sseggona prepares to face Walukaaga, Bobi Wine’s endorsed candidate. Political observers believe the race will test NUP’s strength in Buganda, where the party has enjoyed wide support since 2021.
Sseggona’s decision to contest independently may also split the opposition vote in the constituency. This has raised questions about whether the ruling party could take advantage of the divisions to reclaim the seat.
As the 2026 elections draw closer, Busiro East is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic battlegrounds. With pride, power, and political survival at stake, the clash between Medard Sseggona and Mathias Walukaaga promises fireworks in Uganda’s political landscape.
