The win took the Jogoos to third place on 39 points, five behind leaders Kitara FC but the Blues have two games in hand.

Umar Lutalo fired Villa into the lead from a well taken free kick in the 20th minute. The versatile played curled the ball beyond a fully stretched Ronald Mutebi who was in goal for the visitors.

The lead only lasted ten minutes with Henry Kitegenyi drawing the game level at the half hour mark, capitalizing on poor ball handling by Jeans Braddy Wokorach.

The shot stopper failed to deal with Innocent Wafula’s telling cross, only to spill the ball into the path of Kitegenyi.

In the second half, Mbarara City had a penalty shootout that was turned down by referee William Oloya.

It was substitute Hakim Kiwanuka who got the winner for SC Villa in the 68th minute with a well taken left footed strike.

Villa will return to action on Thursday next week away to Busoga United FC while Mbarara City FC who remain tenth on the table will host Maroons FC the next day.
