As earlier anticipated, champions SC Villa have dominated the nominations for the forthcoming 2023/24 Uganda Premier League awards.

The Jogoos who played arguably the most exciting football last season have a nominee in almost all categories released by the UPL on their website.

Youngster Patrick Kakande, Ronald Ssekiganda and Ronald Otti have the most nominations with both in the running for the Player of the season alongside KCCA’s Muhammad Shaban, Ronald Otti of BUL and Kitara’s Denis Omedi.

Kakande who scored 9 league goals and contributed over six assists is also nominated in the Young Player of the Year category where he is up against Wakiso Giants Kenneth Kimera who scored 10 goals in his debut campaign in the top flight and KCCA’s Usama Arafat.

Ronald Otti of BUL is contesting in the defender of the season category but faces a tight contest that has SC Villa title winning captain Kenneth Ssemakula and NEC’s Joseph Dhata.

For Ssekiganda, his second nomination is in the Midfielder of the Year category but has stiff competition from KCCA’s Joel Sserunjogi and Abraham Tusubira of Maroons who is already assured of the award for the most assist – 11.

Like Tusubira, golden boot winners Muhammad Shaban and the goalkeeper with most clean sheets (12) Tom Ikara of BUL are assured of being awarded on D-day.

Elsewhere, SC Villa’s Serbian coach Dusan Stojanovic is nominated in the coach of the year awards category with Kitara’s Brian Ssenyondo and KCCA’s Abdallah Mubiru who led his team from the base of the log after seven matches to 5th place.

To determine the winners, Public Vote Online will carry 40% while Expert Panel will carry 60%).

The best performers will be rewarded at the glamorous event that will be held on Saturday, 29th June at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
