antimicrobial resistance is an escalating public health concern in Nigeria that occurs when infections no longer respond to the medicines designed to kill or control them, making common treatments less effective and illnesses harder and more expensive to cure. Across the country, factors such as inappropriate antibiotic use, weak regulation, and limited public awareness contribute to the rising prevalence of resistant infections, threatening healthcare systems and patient outcomes. National efforts, including coordinated surveillance, stewardship programs, and education campaigns led by the Nigeria National Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce and partners, aim to strengthen detection, promote responsible medicine use, and slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance for a healthier future.
