- Day 1 Leader: Silver Opio – 70
Silver Opio shot aloft the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2024 Mbarara Golf open for the professionals.
The Entebbe based pro struck level par (70 gross) during the first 18 holes’ action on the 9-hole golfing facility in Western Uganda on Thursday, 27th June 2024.
Opio takes a single shot lead to the second round as the golfers embark on the last 18 holes to make it 36 holes in total.
Marvin Kibirige, fresh from winning the West Nile open a fortnight ago scored one-over 71, same as David Kamulindwa on round one.
Deo Akope and Herman Deco Mutebi are jointly tied (2-over-par) to complete the outstanding five golfers after round one.
Irene Nakalembe (73), Tom Jingo (74), Grace Kasango (75), Canary Kabise (75), Ronald Otile (75), James Koto (75) and Tadeo Rodel Gaita (76) are all within catching distance and in sight for the treasured cut to partake the kitty cake of Ug.Shs 10,000,000.
A total of 22 Uganda professional golfers traveled to Mbarara.
Friday, 28th June 2024 will witness the professional golfers and gross players complete their action ahead of the main championship on the subsequent day.
Meanwhile, Joseph Cwinya-ai led after the amateurs’ cluster from two rounds with a total of 141 gross (72 and 69).
Elton Thembo (147), John Musimenta (151), Denis Rulangwa (152) and Titus Okwong (152) are all in the top five positions.
