"Politics Won’t Stop My Respect for Bobi Wine" Eddy Kenzo Breaks His Silence

Ugandan singer and BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo has finally spoken out about his relationship with National Unity Platform (NUP) president and fellow musician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine. The star made it clear that even though they are no longer walking the same political path, his respect for Bobi Wine remains strong.
Kenzo explained that politics has created misunderstandings between them, but he does not believe it should erase the years of friendship and mutual respect they shared in the music industry. According to him, Bobi Wine played an important role in inspiring young people to fight for change, and for that he will always appreciate him.
“I still respect NUP president Bobi Wine even though we are not on the same political path,” Kenzo said. “I supported his ideas but it wasn’t a must that everyone was supposed to follow him by force.”
The singer went on to say that Bobi Wine expected all artists and public figures to join his political movement. However, Kenzo believes that each person has their own choices and responsibilities. He noted that many entertainers, like him, also have families to take care of and cannot be forced into politics.
“Bobi Wine wanted all of us to follow him, forgetting that we had families to feed,” Kenzo explained. He emphasized that music and politics are two different careers, and not everyone is willing or able to mix the two.
Kenzo, who has built a global reputation as one of Uganda’s leading musicians, said his decision to stay away from NUP politics should not be seen as betrayal. Instead, he called it a personal choice, rooted in his desire to keep his focus on music and other responsibilities.
He also asked his fans not to misinterpret his words, stressing that he has no grudge against Bobi Wine. On the contrary, Kenzo acknowledged Bobi Wine’s courage in taking on political leadership and said he respects him for standing firm in difficult times.
The award-winning artist reminded Ugandans that diversity of thought is important in a democracy. He argued that disagreements in politics should not lead to personal hatred, especially among people who once worked closely together.
Kenzo also used the opportunity to encourage unity among musicians and the public, saying that Uganda needs more peace and cooperation rather than divisions fueled by politics. He promised to continue using his music to uplift the country and promote positive messages.
As one of Uganda’s most celebrated artists, Kenzo’s words carry weight in the entertainment industry and beyond. His decision to set the record straight may ease tensions among fans who have often seen his relationship with Bobi Wine as strained.
