Winners:

  • Rugby: Malcom Okello (Platinum Credit Heathens)
  • Football: Shadia Nabirye (Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club)
  • Netball: Fildausi Namulema (NIC Netball Club)

Daniel Malcom Okello, a rugby player with Platinum Credit Heathens won the top accolade in rugby for the Fortebet real stars monthly stars for the month of May 2024.

Okello beat off stiff competition from Emily Lekuru and Ivan Magomu after declaration during the awards ceremony at Lazio Restaurant, Kololo on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

He was inspirational for the Platinum Credit Heathens in their victory of the 2024 Nile Special Rugby championship.

 

Okello scored 19 points during the first semi-final leg against rivals Kobs 29-18. For the second leg, he scored a try and a penalty despite Heathens falling 18-13 but qualified for the final that they won.

 

He cited dedicated the award to his teammates. “I want to thank the organizers of these awards. I dedicate my award to my teammates. We really worked hard for the success” he spoke.

Elsewhere; Kawempe Muslim women football club player Shadia Nabirye won the football accolade, beating Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa and Emmanuel Ajo, a footballer at relegated Busoga United.

In netball, National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball club player Fildausi Namulema won award.

Namulema, a center-cum-winger attacker was part of the NIC team that won the 2024 East African netball championship in Dar-es-salaam city, Tanzania.

At the same tournament, she was also named the most valuable player (MVP).

She beat teammate Rachael Nanyonga and Prisons’ Christine Namulumba.

“I am happy for this award. It took determination and teamwork to win the championship in Tanzania” Namulema stated.

Namulema featured in all NIC’s eight games at the championship played on round-robin format where she was influential.

NIC won their 22nd title in the history of this championship.

The awards were handed over by Real Stars Sports Agency executive director Isaac Mukasa and the sponsors’ representatives from Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions.
