Soroti City, the defending champions of the T20 Women’s League, are chasing a second consecutive title as the league returns this weekend.

The exit of Aziz Damani who had dominated the league over the past five years has opened up the league for new winners to emerge.

Soroti City managed to stop Aziz Damani from winning a fourth consecutive title last season as they claimed their first league crown. The girls from Soroti will start the defence of their title against a rejuvenated Jinja SS side who will also be playing at home.

The new season also came with new rules. Each side can have just three contracted national team players to ensure the teams are fairly balanced. Therefore, many teams have had new faces coming in and others leaving.

Soroti City will be counting on the Victoria Pearls Captain Janet Mbabazi together with Proscovia Alako and Evelyn Anyipo as their national players. Still, they have some exciting young talent in Naomi Amogin, Kevin Amuge, Sandra Achao, Patricia Timong and Esther Iloku to take them to the promised land.

Jinja SS will rely on the returning Stephanie Nampiina, Immaculate Nakisuyi and Rita Musamali together with youngsters Hope Mbeiza and Vivian Nassuna to take down the defending champions.

The season will have nine teams divided into two groups. The teams will play a doubleheader on each match day with the top two sides in each group qualifying for the semifinals.

  • Group A: Soroti City, Jinja SS, JACC, ACC, Tornado Bee
  • Group B: Olila CC, Wanderers, Pioneer, Tornado

This season promises to be a competitive one with the teams putting in a lot of work in putting their sides together to make sure each one of them has a shot at the title.
