Ngabirano Stephen Emerges as Frontrunner in Sheema North MP Race, New Poll Reveals
A recent opinion poll has revealed Ngabirano Stephen as the leading candidate in the Sheema North parliamentary race ahead of the 2026 general elections. The young and energetic contender from Ryamasa is currently topping the race with 38% support, according to a survey conducted among over 1,000 voters across key areas like Kyangyenyi, Rugarama, and Masheruka.
The poll places the incumbent, Hon. Naomi Kibaaju, in second place with 22%, followed by Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye at 16%. Other candidates include Pison Kanyesigye at 11%, Micheal Kasheka with 8%, and Kiconco Agnes trailing at 5%.
Ngabirano's growing popularity is being credited to his deep roots in the constituency and his strong connection with ordinary citizens. Born and raised in Ryamasa, he has experienced the same struggles as many residents — from poor roads to limited job opportunities — and is using that understanding to craft a relatable campaign. His message of “Hope, Dreams & Prosperity” is resonating strongly, especially with youth, women, and farmers.
Many respondents praised Ngabirano for his practical and realistic approach to leadership. Rather than making vague promises, he has focused on concrete issues like youth skills development, access to better healthcare, boosting agriculture, and creating sustainable jobs. “Stephen is the only one talking about how we can stand on our own,” said a boda boda rider from Kyangyenyi. “He’s not just begging for votes. He has a plan.”
The poll also signals a shift in voter sentiment away from long-serving politicians. Incumbent MP Naomi Kibaaju has faced criticism for being distant from the people and failing to deliver on her earlier promises. Residents cited poor road conditions, underfunded schools, and high unemployment as major concerns that remain unaddressed during her tenure.
Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, once a powerful political figure in the region, is also losing traction among younger voters who associate him with outdated leadership and political fatigue. Meanwhile, candidates like Pison Kanyesigye, Micheal Kasheka, and Kiconco Agnes are still struggling to gain visibility and connect with the broader electorate.
Ngabirano's campaign is increasingly seen not just as a political movement but as a voice of real hope for the future. A teacher in Masheruka noted, “For the first time in a long while, we have someone who actually listens and speaks our language.”
The poll findings also highlighted key voter concerns, including poor infrastructure, low agricultural returns, a lack of job opportunities, and failing healthcare systems. These issues form the core of Ngabirano’s campaign, and his alignment with people’s everyday struggles is setting him apart.
With the 2026 election drawing closer, the momentum appears to be shifting decisively in favor of Ngabirano Stephen. More than just leading in numbers, he is inspiring confidence and optimism among the people of Sheema North. If the poll is any indication, change could very well be on the horizon.
