The Vipers versus NEC duel was one duel that everybody yearned for as two top placed sides faced off during the final bend of the 2024-2025 Uganda Premier League season.

Vipers cruised to an emphatic 3-1 victory at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, under floodlights.

An overwhelming first half performance from the hosts witnessed goals from Hilary Panuel Mukundane, Allan Okello and Isaac Ogwang.

The latter scored his first ever goal for the Venoms since the mid-season transfer in the secondary transfer window in January 2025.

Vipers led 3-0 by the half time whistle and by this time, the writing was well spelt on the wall that the home side was destined for maximum points unless there was a supernatural comeback from the visitors.

NEC scored a consolation through Paul Mucureezi’s late penalty to give the score-line a worthy second look.

The result was perfect revenge for Vipers who lost to the same opposition by a similar scoreline at Lugogo.

Maximum points for Vipers drive them to 56 points, five adrift of NEC with 6 games left on the clock for the season to wind down.
