Minister Nakadama opens the 4th Nafional Organic Week assures farmers on organic policy into law.
National Organic Agricultural Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU) and its partners have organized The National Organic Week (NOW) 2025 currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda, from November 5th to 8th, 2025, at Hotel Africana.
Themed “The theme for NOW 2025 is “Organic Agriculture: Pathway to CAADP Implementation and Trade Integration across Africa and Beyond”, the organic week was opened by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without portfolio Hon Lukia Nakadama, who commended NOGAMU’s “pivotal role in promoting organic agriculture”
She said that the theme, “ “perfectly aligns with African Union goals”
She noted that the sector has experienced remarkable growth since 2019, driven by innovations such as Kebera and waste management initiatives pledging support the organic movement to translate the current policy into law
“I reaffirm the government’s commitment to supporting organic agriculture for sustainable development and pledge support for the National Organic Agenda” she said
A major point of discussion in the surrounded the urgent need for stricter regulation of the organic industry in Uganda calling Industry leaders are calling on the government to enact legislation to prevent mislabeling of products and ensure that what is sold as “organic” is genuinely so.
The CEO NOGAMU and President of AFRONET Mr. Charlton Namuwoza said that the country is struggling to meet the high local and international demand for organic products, which industry experts say is outpacing supply.
The week features various activities, including exhibitions and trade fairs showcasing organic products from Uganda and across Africa.
According to Namuwoza, Uganda boasts the highest number of certified organic farmers in Africa and ranks second globally after India, highlighting its significant potential in the sector.
