Minerals Minister Nankabirwa officially commissions Euro Gold Refinery

Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, flanked by Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, State Minister for Minerals officially launched a new state-of-the-art refinery Plant known as Gold Refinery SMC Ltd, located in Kamwokya.

The refinery, according to management, is set to refine up to 99.9% Bullion, boosting Uganda's Mineral Sector and marking a significant milestone in Uganda's mineral development journey.

During the commissioning ceremony of the plant, Hon. Nankabirwa said that “Today, together with Minister Phionah Nyamutooro, we have officially opened Euro Gold Refinery (U) SMC Ltd in Kampala. One of only 3 licensed gold refineries in Uganda. This milestone strengthens our minerals sector through value addition, job creation, formalized trade and increased revenue.”

She said that this is the third licensed gold refinery, another major step in the nation's ambitious drive towards mineral beneficiation and industrialization.

The Minister added that “As a country, we are ready for responsible mineral beneficiation. With refineries like Euro Gold Refinery, it reaffirms our commitment to transparency, industrialization, and attracting credible investors for sustainable growth in our mining industry”

The new facility received its refinery license in June 2024 after fulfilling all statutory requirements.

Rtd. Arch Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi blessed the plant with a powerful prayer and applauded management for the launching of the new gold refinery plant

State Minister Phiona Nyamutooro said that Euro Gold Refinery, being a fully owned Ugandan company, will make great strides in ensuring our policy of value addition and export of processed minerals is achieved.

She pledged full support to the new plant: “The Ministry shall offer all the necessary support to see that many other citizens are directly involved in Mineral beneficiation”.

Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa was presented with beautifully crafted, refined gold pieces by the technical team at Euro Gold Refinery in appreciation for the her support and dedication to Uganda's mineral development as a testament to the refinery's commitment to excellence and innovation
