"Me, I Have No Pain In My Heart Because NUP Denied Me The Ticket, That's Isn’t A Big Deal To Me" MP Ssegona Tells

Veteran legislator Medard Lubega Sseggona has publicly reacted to being dropped by the National Unity Platform (NUP) as its candidate for Busiro East, saying he feels no bitterness and accepts the party’s decision with grace.

In an interview with ChimpReports on Tuesday evening, Sseggona emphasized that he holds no anger or resentment toward NUP. “In their own assessment, I may not have played well, but I have no bitterness, no anger, and no pain. From the bottom of my heart, I am at peace,” he said.

Sseggona, a founding member of NUP and a long-serving lawyer, was replaced by Mathias Walukagga, a Kadongo Kamu singer and current Chairperson of Kyengera Town Council, who now carries the NUP flag for Busiro County East.

The veteran MP acknowledged the high expectations of Busiro East constituents. “Busiro people set high standards for their MPs. From Abbey Mukwaya to the professionals who followed, they have always demanded excellence — and I have served with that in mind,” he explained.

At 51 years old, Sseggona first entered Parliament in 2011 and has since dedicated himself to serving his constituents. Despite losing the party ticket, he affirmed his respect for NUP’s decision and described it as “sober” and fair.

“The party has given the card to someone else, and that is okay. Decisions were made soberly, and I cannot appeal against them. I remain loyal to my party,” he stated clearly, highlighting his unwavering commitment to NUP.

Sseggona also pointed to his faith as a source of strength. “Whatever went wrong, I leave it to God and ask you to pray for Uganda,” he said, demonstrating a calm and measured response to political disappointment.

The MP made it clear that losing the NUP ticket does not mean retreating from political engagement. He plans to continue interacting with his constituents and other stakeholders in Busiro East. “Tomorrow, I return to my constituents to continue engaging them, because stakeholders are many,” he said.

Observers note that Sseggona’s reaction is a rare display of grace in politics, where losing a party ticket often sparks public bitterness or criticism. His calm and accepting approach may enhance his reputation as a dedicated public servant.

As he moves forward, Medard Lubega Sseggona remains focused on service rather than political setbacks. His story underscores the importance of loyalty, resilience, and the understanding that political life often comes with challenges and unexpected turns.
