Lwakataka primed for national rally title after back-to-back rally wins

Ponsiano Lwakataka has made it two victories in a row after securing a commanding win in the second round of the national rally championship in Masaka.
The Bistro Bwera SMC Masaka rally was anticipated to produce a tight contest for the top spot after the entry of several top crews.
The seamless win for the two-time national rally champion has cast favourable chances for Lwakataka in the race for the 2025 national rally title.
With the continuous rains in Masaka, crews were put to test after the stages proved slippery over two days. Skills more than fast pace needed to be employed.
Lwakataka and his co-driver Paul Musaazi in a Subaru Impreza N12 mastered the challenge to easily take command of the rally from day one to the last stage on Sunday.
‘Mafu Mafu’ as he is commonly known secured the home victory with the fastest time of 1hr 29mins and 28seconds.
“I am happy to win from home. I am thirsty for the championship and this year, I am going to fight to win it and give my fans and sponsors joy,” said Lwakataka.
Ronald Sebuguzi and Anthony Mugambwa in a Ford Fiesta Proto finished second. They were 5 minutes and 25 seconds off the winning time.
With the second podium this season, the Shell Sponsored crew maintains their second position on the NRC leaderboard.

Musa Ssegaabwe completed the podium with a third place finish.
Duncan Mubiru settled for fourth overall while Peter Kalule completed the top five.
In the two-wheel drive category, Ahmed Senyonjo in the Toyota Corolla registered victory followed by Hajji Kavuma and Mansoor Lubega in second and third respectively.
In the Clubman rally championship, Ahmed Kateete landed his first victory followed by Walter Kibande while Kevin Bebeto finished third.
The third round of the national rally championship is scheduled for 9-11 May in Mbarara district.
