How My Sons Escaped Addiction and Found Their Way Back to Life

My name is Margaret Nansubuga, and I come from Wakiso, Uganda. If there’s one thing I’ve lived through, it’s the heartbreak of seeing your own children lose their path. I brought up my sons with care and firm guidance, taught them values, and worked tirelessly to secure a better life for them. But despite everything, both of my boys fell into the grip of drug addiction. It began innocently—with alcohol and cigarettes—but soon spiraled out of control. They dropped out of school, fought with me, stole from our home, and even started sleeping on the streets.

I did all I could to save them. I took them to counselors, paid for rehab programs, and even sought spiritual help from our church pastor. Each time there was a glimpse of hope, they would relapse. It felt like a dark shadow had settled over my family. Their father abandoned us years ago, and I was left to face it all alone. I wept through sleepless nights, haunted by the fear that my boys might never find their way back.
