Gender Minister Peace Mutuzo calls for enhanced data research to boost integrated Gender Equality implementation.

 As part of the Africa African Statistics week 2025, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on the 6th day The 8th Annual Gender Statistics Forum focusing on advancing gender-responsive data for a more just, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Africa.  

The 8th Forum, attracted partners and stakeholders to deepen discussions on innovations that strengthen gender data systems and inform evidence-based policies.

While officiating at the forum, the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Hon. Peace Mutuzo, highligligten the key role played by gender statistics in addressing gender issues in Uganda in especially Gender Based Violence, family planning, refugee health status, water quality,  menstrual health and hygiene among others.

She said for the country to achieve an integrated Gender Equality implementation, there is a need for UBOS, stakeholders and partners improve data research and policy. 

The 8th Annual Gender Statistics Forum is was themed: “Leveraging Innovation in Data and Statistics to Promote a Just, Peaceful, Inclusive, and Prosperous Society for Africans.”

Statistics report show that there is a lower percentage of Females attaining education, as compared to Males. This percentage according to UBOS grows slimmer as education level goes higher. 22.7% of Females have no formal education, while only 5.2% of Females pursue education beyond secondary level.

The report means that despite the increase in the use of sanitary pads for age groups 15-19 (70.8%) and 20-24(74.8%), it is worryingly true that 13.1% and 12.4% respectively use a cloth while 3.8% and 2.9% respectively have nothing to use.

While presenting the Gender Statistics report 2023/24, Mr. Oweka Benson (pictured above) from UBOS revealed that 22.7% of Females suffered sickness or injury as compared to 19.6% of Males. 83% of these sought health care and this was mostly from private hospitals/clinics, followed by government health centres. 

“Women with less, or no education at all experienced more physical violence in the past 12 months, as compared to their educated counterparts. Men aged 15-19 years experienced more violence compared to Women of the same age”

UBOS Executive Director  Dr. Chris N. Mukiza flagged off the Africa Statistics activities since 12th going up to 21st November applauding stakeholders and the public for always support Statistical activities and always use official statistical data fromUBOS for decision making.
