Author of “JFK: Reckless Youth” and “Greenwich in Colour: A guide for the visitor”, among hundreds of other publications, Hamilton’s famous quote is emphasizing the value of appreciation through a warm thanks-giving.
On Sunday, 23rd June 2024, management of Fort Portal Secondary School organized a thanksgiving church service at St John’s Cathedral, Kabarole in the Anglican diocese of Rwenzori.
School administrators, students, teachers and non-teaching staff were all involved in the holy church service whose main sermon on the day was led by Edson Balyaremwa.
Fort Portal Secondary School director Douglas Kahuma remarked that this thanksgiving service was to show appreciation to the Almighty God for the sporting success and exceptional performance in the Ordinary and Advanced levels of education.
“Fort Portal Secondary School is so grateful to God for what we have achieved both in academics and co-curriculum activities as sports. This is the reason we had to give thanks to God.” Kahuma stated.
For starters, Fort Portal Secondary School has been outstanding in football, netball and athletics as well as academics in the Rwenzori region for the past decade.
In football, they clinched both the district and zonal trophies this year before qualifying for the USSSA national championships in Masaka city.
They were champions in both girls and boys gender in athletics for Fort Portal city.
Fort Portal SS also won the district trophy for netball.
For academics, Fort Portal SS was the best in both O and A level examinations during the year 2023.
97 students got first grades in O-Level with the best candidate, David Mugisha (U0942/014) scoring 8 aggregates in 8 subjects.
24 students scored second graced and only one was in division three with no failure with a total of 122 candidates who registered.
For A-Level, 107 students between 20 and 10 points out of the 123 candidates registered.
Ramathan Gulu, Timothy Gumusiriza and Ryan Issa scored 20 points. Eight candidates scored 19 points.
After the church service, the school donated several items to the clergy and church, just like W.Stone Clement remarked “If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share”.
