FEASSA Games 2024 (Rugby 15’s):

Match day one results:

  • All Saints Embu (Kenya) 24-23 St Mary’s College Kisubi (Uganda)
  • Lenana School (Kenya) 10-07 Namilyango College (Uganda)
  • Kings College Budo (Uganda) 00-60 Butula High School (Kenya)
  • Kitondo SS (Kenya) 16-10 Makerere College School (Uganda)

The famous Busamaga rugby fortress in Mbale city was the place to be as Rugby kicked off during the on-going 2024 FEASSA Games, hosted by Uganda at Amus College and Bukedea Comprehensive.

It was a baptism of fire for Uganda’s ambassadors in the 15’s version of the game on match day one as all the four schools lost to Kenyan schools.

St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) narrowly fell 23-24 to All Saints Embu.

All Saints Embu led 16-13 by the half-time break thanks to a try from Emmanuel Obutu, converted by Josphant Karanja.

Karanja also scored a brace of penalties before Moses Ajak added the other.

SMACK replied through Jacob Abaasa’s try, converted by Gavin Kirabo with Kirabo also drilling home two penalties.

Namilyango College squandered a 7-0 half time lead to lose 07-10 to Lenana School.

NGO led through Mark Kiyingi’s try, that was converted by Emmanuel Ojambo to boss the opening stanza.

The tiding of the game completely changed in the second half with Joel Ochero’s double tries (not converted).

Kings College Budo was humiliated 60-00 by a dominant Butula High School during a one-sided duel.

Adrian Kawesa and Michael Lukusa had a lion’s share of the tries and conversions in the opening half that Butula led with comfort 29-00.

John Onyango, Daniel Wafula and Godwill Kemba inflicted more damage in the subsequent stanza to complete the job 60-00.

The fourth and final game on the day witnessed Makerere College School lose 10-16 to Kitondo Secondary School.

The Rugby 15’s will continue to be played concurrently with the 7’s until the final match day.

Besides Rugby, the other sports disciplines at the 2024 FEASSSA Games include Handball, Hockey, Volleyball, Badminton, football, basketball (3X3 and normal basketball), netball, handball, athletics, swimming, tennis and table tennis.

These games that were officially opened by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Sunday, 17th August will run until Tuesday, 27th August 2024.
