Emerald shaken in Batball Maxx Semis as Gold flex Saphhire to make Final

Batball Maxx | Semifinals
Emerald vs. Ruby
- EMERALD 129 all out
- RUBY 96 all out
- Emerald won by 33 runs
Gold vs. Sapphire
- GOLD 172/6
- SAPPHIRE 155/7
- Gold won by 17 runs
Emerald lost a single game in the group games, winning five out of six, but had their backs against the wall in the semifinal against Ruby, who had only one win in the group games.
Ruby bundled out the favourites for only 129, with Pascal Murungi (55) the lone ranger for Emerald with the bat. The former Baby Cricket Cranes captain notched up his first half-century of the tournament.
Ruby failed to manage the run chase, dropped wickets in regular intervals, and eventually ran out of resources with still 33 runs required for the victory.
The favourites Emerald were given a scare by Ruby but eventually went safely through to Sunday’s final.
In the afternoon, Captain Kenneth Waiswa (82) continued his rich vein of form as he led from the front to anchor the innings for his Gold team. Stephen Wabwose (30) and Gerald Olipa (20) made contributions in a team-high 172 in their 20 overs.
In the run chase, former Kenyan international Collins Obuya (52), Cyrus Kakuru (42) and Hamu Kayondo (35) kept Sapphire in the game but once they departed, the rest of the batting failed to keep up with the required rate and eventually ran out of resources with 17 runs needed for the win.
Stephen Wabwose (4/16) was the pick of the bowlers with his left arm spin as GOLD sneaked into the final.
The top two sides from the group stages move into the final which will be played on Sunday as the 1st edition of the Bat Ball Maxx tournament concludes.
