It is final round of the 83rd edition for the Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Golf open championship at the lake side par-71 Entebbe club on Saturday, 31st August 2024.

The winner is set to be crowned by close of business on the day that also the subsidiary golfers (in group B handicap) will be in action.

At the top, it is too close to call as the leader after 54 holes in three rounds, Joseph Reagan Akena from Lugazi Hills and Country Club has amassed 217 strokes, one better than the duo of Joseph Cwinya-ai and Titus Okwong.

These three aforementioned golfers will be joined by Abdul Kakeeto in the main pressure group that drives off at half past noon.

Ten minutes earlier (12:20 PM), defending champion Godfrey Nsubuga will be in action alongside Ibrahim Ssemakula, Samuel Bazaale and Michael Tumusiime.

At 12:10 PM, It will be the third pressure group in action with the likes of Kenya’s Adel Balala, Elton Thembo, Joseph Kasozi and Abdallah Kakooza.

The gallery is expected to swell as they keenly follow the proceedings from every player, especially those in the main pressure group.

About the Uganda Golf Open:

The Uganda Open the most prestigious golf championships for the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) with a rich history since inception in 1932.

Over the years, the sponsors have evolved over the years.

This year and in the past seasons, Johnnie Walker is the lead sponsor with players from hosts Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan and Rwanda.

H. Davidson won the inaugural edition. The open only missed out on two different occasions; between 1940-1947 (World War) and 1979-1980 (Political insurgency in Uganda).

Jinja Club’s legend Sadi Onito (Rest in Peace) has the record number of titles won (12) in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1991, 1994, 1995 and 1996.

After the amateurs, there will be the Pro-Am and there after the professionals.
