USSSA Ankole Region 2024 (Boys Football):

  • Final: Welden High School (Mbarara) 2-0 St Kagwa High School (Bushenyi)

Welden High School won the 2024 Ankole region Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) boys’ football championship.

The Mbarara based school overcame St Kagwa Bushenyi High school 2-0 during the well-contested finale played in Ibanda district on Sunday, 14th April 2024.

Usual suspects Hussein Barrack and Hannington “Kaddu” Oyirwoth scored the goals for Welden High School.

In the semi-finals, Welden High School edged Ryakasinga CHE 2-0 whilst St Kagwa condemned St Augustine 6-0.

The champions were rewarded with a trophy and gold medals whilst St Kagwa Bushenyi High school got silver medals.

Jajja Noah Mugerwa, head coach at Welden High School lauded the brevity of the players, appreciating the school management and fellow coaches for the collective team effort.

“Right from day one of the district qualifiers, we were focused. I wish to thank the players for the brave effort. The school management was also supportive and so were the coaching staff” Mugerwa noted.

Mugerwa has now set focus for the upcoming nationals in Masaka city towards the end of April 2024.

“I am humbled for the qualification to the nationals. Straight away, we embark on preparations for this tournament” Mugerwa added.

Four schools; Welden High School, St Kagwa Bushenyi High School, Ryakasinga CHE and St Augustine will all represent Ankole region at the nationals.
