On Thursday, 17th July 2025, Huawei Technologies Uganda activated the second edition of the 2025 Campus Recruitment Program at Makerere University (MAK), aimed at empowering final-year students and recent graduates to unlock their career potential and contribute to Uganda’s digital future.

The recruitment activity that was held at the Makerere University Main building attracted various categories of graduates and finalists from different disciplines, especially in engineering, networking, software development, among others, under the theme “The Sky Is the Limit” and the slogan “A Better U for a Better Uganda.”

While making his opening remarks, the Principal, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), while appreciating Huawei Technologies, encouraged the graduates and final year students to embrace the career opportunities that have been offered to the university's immediate Alumni and students, which he says bridges industry players' partnership with the university in areas of career development, research, internships, and others.

“As a university, we put a lot of emphasis on academic partnership because when we are teaching, our efforts are to ensure students are industry-ready and competent. We appreciate Huawei for offering to nurture young talents for a more experienced workforce with world-class technology,” he said

The Principal CEDAT MAK giving his remarks

The Principal revealed to the students that it's high time they embarked on a full-scale career path in ICT and engineering rather than only seeking any job for money, urging them to focus on building professionalism, an attitude to excel, in addition to the skills.

Mr. Wang Bin, the Position Director, Delivery & Service Department, Huawei Technologies Uganda, said that Huawei is committed to ensuring that graduates benefit from the annual recruitment programs to connect them to the technology human resources through exploring the existing offers.

“Students will harness what Huawei will offer. As a global leader in ICT, we plan to see a better future through the annual recruitment events,” he said

Mr. Wang said that Huawei Technologies Uganda believes not only in developing technologies but also in growing with the people in the community they serve.

The 2024 Huawei Ambassador Barbara Nuwagi

The 2024 Huawei Senior Ambassador, Barbara Nuwagi in an interview at the sidelines of the event, said that the recruitment program is mainly targeting graduates in the ICT and engineering to inspire them to stay in line with their career path and avoid changing to other fields in search of jobs.

” We want to find the best of the best. We expect students in the ICT and engineering to get motivated to ensure they stay online in their careers. You find after school they jump to other fields; they jump to any opportunity away from what they intended,” she said

She added that she was succeeded by the current 2025 Huwae Ambassador, Kaweesi Erina, who she said will carry on the mantle.

The Public Relations Manager, Huawei Technologies, Ms. Sooma Mukyala outlined various corporate social responsibility initiatives that Huawei Technologies Uganda continues to provide to Ugandans, including: ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future, Huawei ICT Competition, Digi Truck, Digital Village, among others.
