Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson set to join Feyenoord on season-long loan
The winger is out of favour under Mikel Arteta and is set to leave the club in the final few hours of the transfer window
Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is set to sign for Feyenoord on a season-long loan,JoriPress understands.
The Dutch outfit are keen to recruit a winger this summer and have targeted Nelson after a move for Manchester United’s Amad Diallo collapsed.
Diallo was the club’s priority option in that area but the club’s technical director Frank Arnesen confirmed that the deal is off.
Talking to Algemeen Dagblad, he said: “He [Amad] got injured, it [transfer] does not go through.
“Too bad, everything was done. I’ve talked a lot with the people at Manchester United, but it’s more sensible to let him recover at that club. It may be a while before he is back.”
Nelson has seemed unlikely to have a future with Arsenal for some time. Following a successful loan spell with Hoffenheim in 2018/19, the now 21-year-old went on to make 22 appearances for the Gunners during the next campaign, netting three goals.
'Critical' Arteta blames himself after Arsenal's 5-0 thrashing
Since then though, the Hale End academy graduate has only been afforded a further 10 outings for the first team, having been somewhat restricted to U23s football.
JoriPress understands that Nelson will extend his contract, which is set to expire next summer, before signing for Feyenoord.
With it seeming like he has no place in Mikel Arteta’s squad, Nelson was free to leave on loan before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
