Arsenal complete third summer transfer as Ben White joins from Brighton

Ben White has joined Arsenal from Brighton for a fee believed to be in the region of £50million.

The 23-year-old becomes the club's third signing of the summer after Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga completed their respective moves from Benfica and Anderlecht earlier in the window.

The Gunners interest in the defender has been well known for some time now, but his role in helping the England squad reach the final of this summer's Euros is understood to have delayed the transfer.

However, after returning from his holiday, White has completed his medical and is expected to join up with his new teammates to begin preparations for the coming season.

The England international's arrival comes amid a summer of change at the back for Arsenal.

David Luiz left the club when his contract expired in June, meaning the club felt a signing was required to help replicate the Brazilian's ball playing abilities.

With William Saliba not deemed ready enough the Gunners focused in on White and after two failed bids, were finally able to get their man.

The 23-year-old is now expected to compete with Rob Holding and Calum Chambers for the regular starting spot on the right side of central defence, with Gabriel and Pablo Mari fighting for the spot on the left.

Despite this being Arsenal's third signing of the summer their work in the transfer window is far from over.

The Gunners are still on the look out for a goalkeeper, central midfielder and creative midfielder, with Aaron Ramsdale, Yves Bissouma and Martin Odegaard among the many names to have been linked in these respective positions.

There is also a possibility that a right back and centre forward could arrive at the Emirates before the end of the transfer window on August 31.
