Andrew Kabuura shares his journey from village boy to sports commentator

Andrew Kabuura, a well-known sports commentator, opened up about his childhood and the journey that led him to his passion for sports commentary.
In a rare interview with NBS Plus, he shared his personal story about upbringing and how his love for football commentary took shape.

Born in Kyabanyoro, a village in Ntungamo District, Kabuura describes himself as a “proper village champion.”
His early years were spent away from the city, and it wasn’t until Senior One that he moved to Kampala. However, his life took a turn when he lost his father at the age of eight.
Following this tragedy, his uncle stepped in as his guardian and relocated him to the capital city.
I attended Vienna College – Namugongo for Senior One to Senior Four, then Makerere College School (MACOS) for Senior Five and Six. Later, I joined Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where I studied Business Administration.
Despite studying Business Administration, Kabuura always felt drawn to a different path.
He described a “small voice” in his head that kept urging him toward something else—football commentary.
I wasn’t even the best footballer, but I simply loved football commentary. I would listen to BBC’s Russell Fuller, and local stations had started commentary in Luganda. I just loved the vibe.
