2026 World Cup qualifiers: Tunisia maintain perfection, South Sudan hold Togo

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers across Africa resumed on Wednesday with Tunisia maintaining their perfect start with a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in Group H.

The Carthage Eagles scored a late winner through Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane late penalty to maintain a two-point lead at the top.

Tunisia are now on nine points in the group that has Namibia who are second on 7 points. The Namibian side played to a 1-1 draw with Liberia.

In other matches played on Wednesday, Sierra Leone beat minnows Djibouti 2-1. Former SC Villa goalkeeper Luyima was in goal for Djibouti.

South Sudan played to a 1-1 draw with Togo in a game the Bright Stars had current and former UPL stars feature including NEC right back Joseph Dhata, Gaddafi Wahab, Rashid Toha and Tito Okello among others.

Central African Republic were also winners over CHAD in the other game played on Wednesday.

The qualifiers continue on Thursday with 10 fixtures on card including Mali and Ghana in Group I.

Africa has a guaranteed nine qualifiers for the 2026 finals in Canada, Mexico and the United States, with all group winners booking a spot at the tournament.
