Uganda Men’s 7s are at a crossroads. The conclusion of their 2023-24 season is separated from the start of their 2024-25 campaign by just a calendar week.
The Rugby 7s Repechage in Monaco is scheduled for June 21-23 and the 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s in Mauritius will start on June 29-30.
Both tournaments are of great significance: the Repechage, for Uganda’s maiden appearance at the Olympic Games and the Africa 7s, for Uganda to qualify for next season’s Challenger Series.
Uganda’s travelling squad for the Repechage was named on Thursday after the early morning training session at Kyadondo Rugby Club. It returns to a semblance of a core squad after sending mostly fringe players for the Munich dead rubber.

- 1 Ian Munyani (captain), 2 Alex Aturinda, 3 Pius Ogena, 4 Philip Wokorach, 5 Allan Olango, 6 Karim Arinaitwe, 7 William Nkore, 8 Adrian Kasito, 9 Timothy Mugisha, 10 Nobert Okeny, 11 Timothy Kisiga, 12 Roy Kizito.
This will be Uganda’s third successive appearance at the Rugby 7s Repechage since 2016. The tournament will be hosted at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
The Rugby Cranes 7s will face Canada, China, and Great Britain in the pool phase of the tournament.
Uganda Men’s fixtures at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Repechage (all times EAT):
- Day One (Friday) 4.28 p.m.: Canada vs Uganda
- Day Two (Saturday) 1.52 p.m.: Great Britain vs Uganda
- Day Two (Saturday) 6.28 p.m.: Uganda vs China
The knockout round will be played on Day Three (Sunday).
Should Uganda make it, they will join Kenya as Africa’s representatives in Rugby 7s at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris from July 24.
